Module Lesson of 24 3 min

Intermediate Financial Planning

Take your finances to the next level with insurance, real estate, tax optimization, side income management, and long-term financial goal setting in Chile.

This module takes you beyond the fundamentals. You have learned how to manage bank accounts, build a budget, save consistently, handle debt responsibly, and begin investing. Now you will address the financial decisions that separate those who merely survive from those who build lasting security and wealth: protecting what you have, making strategic housing decisions, keeping more of what you earn, creating additional income streams, and setting goals that drive everything forward.

You will begin with insurance — the financial safety net that most people ignore until disaster strikes. In Chile, understanding the difference between FONASA and ISAPRE, knowing what GES/AUGE covers, and choosing the right auto and home insurance can mean the difference between a manageable setback and financial ruin. You will learn exactly which types of coverage are mandatory, which are optional but essential, and how to avoid paying for protection you do not need.

From there, you will tackle the biggest financial decision most Chileans face: renting versus buying a home. You will understand how mortgages work in UF, what subsidios habitacionales are available, how much pie you really need, and how to calculate whether buying makes sense for your specific situation. Real numbers for Santiago, Valparaiso, and Concepcion will ground this decision in reality rather than emotion.

The module then addresses tax optimization — not avoidance, but the legal strategies that let you keep more of your money. You will master APV Regimen A versus Regimen B, understand deductions for mortgage interest and education, and learn how to navigate Operacion Renta with confidence. Every peso saved on taxes is a peso that compounds in your favor.

Next, you will explore side income and freelancing in the Chilean context. From boletas de honorarios to inicio de actividades at the SII, you will understand the legal and tax framework for earning additional income. Whether through platforms like Rappi and Mercado Libre or professional consulting, you will know exactly how to manage and grow income beyond your primary salary.

Finally, you will bring everything together with financial goal setting. Using the SMART framework adapted to Chile’s financial instruments — APV, DAP, fondos mutuos, subsidios — you will create a concrete roadmap from where you are today to where you want to be. You will learn to track net worth in both CLP and UF, and build a plan that connects daily habits to decades-long outcomes.

By the end of Module 6, you will have the tools and knowledge to make confident, strategic financial decisions that protect your present and build your future within Chile’s unique financial landscape.
