This page explains how to delete your Finthy account, operated by Finthy Horizon LLC, and how to request deletion of specific data without closing your account. It also sets out exactly what is removed and what is kept.
Delete your account
From the app
- Open Finthy and sign in.
- Go to Settings, then the Privacy section.
- Choose Delete account.
- Enter your password and type DELETE to confirm.
Your account is then scheduled for deletion. You stay signed in on purpose, so that you can cancel during the grace period below.
By email
If you cannot sign in, email [email protected] from the address registered to your account, with the subject Delete my account. We will verify your identity before acting on the request.
A seven day grace period
Deletion does not happen immediately. Your account is scheduled for 7 days, and during that window you can cancel it from the same screen. This exists so an accidental or compromised request can be undone.
After 7 days the deletion runs and cannot be reversed.
Delete some of your data without closing your account
You do not have to delete your whole account to have data removed.
- Open Finthy and go to Settings, then the Privacy section.
- Choose Data request.
- Choose Erasure to have specific data deleted, or Restriction to limit how it is processed.
- Describe what you want removed and submit.
You can also send the same request to [email protected].
These are GDPR data subject requests. The screen shows each request’s status and the deadline we are working to, and you can see your full request history there. The same screen offers Access, Portability, Rectification and Objection requests.
What is deleted
When an account deletion runs, the following are permanently removed:
- Your profile: name, email address, password and authentication settings, including two factor secrets, backup codes and passkeys
- Every transaction, and the raw provider data behind it
- Every account and bank connection
- Budgets, budget periods and their transaction links, and budget templates
- Categories you created
- Net worth positions, and net worth and total worth history
- Calendar events and their occurrences
- File imports, including anything you forwarded by email
- Notifications
- Your support contact record
Bank connections are revoked with the provider as part of this, so they no longer have access to your bank on our behalf. Any active subscription billed through us is cancelled at the same time.
Subscriptions bought through the App Store or Google Play are billed by the store, not by us, and must be cancelled in your store subscription settings. Deleting your Finthy account does not cancel them.
What is kept, and for how long
| What | Kept for | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Consent records | 7 years, archived | Proof of consent, required under GDPR |
| Billing and tax records held by our payment processors | As required by law in their jurisdiction | Statutory accounting obligations |
Nothing else survives an account deletion. We do not retain your transactions, balances, budgets or documents after it has run.
Other retention periods
These apply while your account is open, and are separate from deletion:
| What | Deleted after |
|---|---|
| Uploaded statements and receipts | 24 hours after processing |
| Parsed file import data | 90 days |
| Raw transaction data from bank providers | 365 days |
| Inactive accounts | 2 years without activity, with 30 days’ notice first |
An inactive account is deleted on the same terms as a deletion you request: notice first, then a 7 day grace period, then permanent removal.
If something goes wrong
If you cannot access your account, or a request has not been actioned, contact [email protected]. If you are in the EU or UK you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
